Nichia Settled with Korean LED maker
June 6, 2005 - Nichia Corporation announced today that it settled a patent infringement lawsuit with Korean LED manufacturer Luxpia Inc. Nichia had filed the lawsuit in last June, alleging the LED products sold by Luxpia infringed Nichia's Korean Patent (No. 992103), and demanded Luxpia cease the sales of infringing LED products.
Luxpia, after evaluating the case on its merits, opted for settlement with Nichia, and parties at last agreed on the settlement.
As the result of the settlement, Luxpia put apology ads in two of the major industrial papers in Korea (The Electronic Times and Maeil Business Newspaper) on May 24, 2005, and Nichia withdrew its patent infringement claims against Luxpia on May 31, 2005.
Nichia will take necessary measure to protect its intellectual property rights against any infringing companies in any part of the world.
